Watchdog unblocks three subnets of foreign hosting providers

MOSCOW, Apr 28 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has unblocked three sub-systems of foreign hosting providers, but Telegram’s IP addresses they accommodate are still closed, the watchdog said on Saturday.

“In the framework of measures to fulfil the court’s decision on Telegram, the communications service has lifted blocking of three sub-systems of several foreign holding providers to avoid any restriction of access to responsible Internet resources,” the authority said.

“But IP addresses of Telegram that are components of these sub-systems are fully identified and blocked. As a result, unblocking of the sub-systems will not impact the level of the messenger’s degradation.”

The authority will keep monitoring exploitation by Telegram of the unblocked sub-systems.

“The use of such a method of cutting access to messenger Telegram will be expanded to other sub-systems of hosting providers,” the watchdog said.

The communications services started blocking Telegram on April 16 for the messenger’s reluctance to hand over decoding keys to the Federal Security Service. Telegram tries to skirt the measure by using Amazon and Google’s hosting, and the service is seeking to close IP addresses of these companies as well, which has already caused multiple issues on third-party resources.
